I’m very happy that a celebrity of McCarthy’s calibre is bringing attention and publicity to the problem of autism but this is my concern also - that she is raising false hopes among many of us parents just thirsting for answers to help our children. Hmmmm....

A Hopeful Phrase, But No Research to Back up Claims about Nutrition
Jenny McCarthy is spreading the word about her hopes that a gluten free diet can reverse autism, or at least alleviate some of its symptoms. While any progress on this frustrating condition are welcome, it’s wise to remember that McCarthy and others who believe in this diet don’t have any good science backing up her claims.
As countless parents now have learned, as soon as you set out to learn about autism, you run into frustrating unknowns.
Why are more and more children being diagnosed with it – now about 1 in every 150 children born? Why are its symptoms more severe in some children than in others? Why are so many more boys diagnosed than girls — four boys for every one girl? What – if any – environmental toxins trigger the disease in the brains of developing fetuses?
